xAI says Grok 4 goes beyond Grok 3 by running reinforcement learning at pretraining scale on its Colossus cluster, widening the training data from mostly math and coding to many more domains, and training the model to use tools natively, picking its own web and X searches. Grok 3 came out 5 months earlier, has a smaller context (131K against 256K tokens) and takes no image input, which Grok 4 does.

Can I self-host Grok 3?

No. xAI does not publish the weights; Grok 3 is available only through hosted APIs.
